London – Rochana Ghimire from Canada emerged as the winner of the ‘NRNA Open Public Speaking’ competition, organized by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) National Coordination Council (NCC) Israel. She gave an outstanding performance and clinched the first prize in the international event.
The competition, held virtually on Saturday, awarded Rochana Ghimire a cash prize of NPR 2 lakh for securing the first place.
Jasmin Began from Poland secured the second position and was awarded NPR 1 lakh in cash.
Samira KC from Russia won the third position and received NPR 50,000 as the cash prize.
Erica Sapkota from Japan won a consolation prize of NPR 30,000.
The competition was divided into two age categories: 17 years and under, and 18 to 40 years. This was the second edition of the event organized by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA). Previously, the NRNA Asia Pacific region had hosted the first-ever public speaking competition.
The judging panel consisted of former president of NRNA and renowned writer Jiva Lamichhane, Chairperson of the Nepal Film Development Board Dinesh DC, and former Miss Nepal Sugrika KC.
NRNA Israel President, Shri Krishna Bhandari, mentioned that the competition aimed to showcase the talents of Nepali expatriates and bring them together on a single platform, fostering further motivation for progress. He expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to making the event a success. The program was coordinated by Chitra Karki.
NRNA President Dr. Badri KC highlighted that the event played a vital role in showcasing participants’ public speaking skills while promoting the Nepali language and culture. He congratulated all the winners and expressed happiness over the enthusiastic participation of the second generation of Nepalis.
The competition, held on the occasion of NRNA Israel’s 17th annual celebration, saw participation from 30 individuals across various countries. The event was also graced by two guest speakers, Ozashwi Acharya and Pensa Regmi.
