Kathmandu – Miss Malta, Cherise Spiteri, arrived in Nepal on Monday. She landed at Tribhuvan International Airport in the morning on a Turkish Airlines flight, where she was warmly welcomed by the Nepal Tourism Board.
Spiteri and her team were greeted with traditional Dhaka topis and Panche Baja music at the airport. Prakash Bhandari, an activist with the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) and Nepal’s tourism ambassador to Malta, expressed that the visit of Miss Malta’s team holds significant importance. He believes their visit will play a crucial role in promoting Nepal’s tourism. Bhandari also noted that with the increasing number of Nepali workers in Malta, Miss Malta’s visit could further enhance Nepal’s tourism promotion across Europe.
The team accompanying Miss Malta includes members Kersten Borg, Daniel Zammit, Alexia Katsar, and Carolina Siubotaru. During their stay in Nepal, the team will engage in social activities in collaboration with various non-governmental organizations. They are also set to attend the Grand Finale of Miss Nepal. Additionally, the team plans to visit various tourist destinations, including Chitwan, and produce a documentary showcasing Nepal.
Som Sapkota, another NRNA activist, mentioned that currently, only a small number of tourists from Malta visit Nepal. However, with appropriate promotion, the number of tourists from Malta could significantly increase.
Bhandari stated, “When the team visits and explores Nepal, people in Malta will learn about Nepal as a travel destination, which is a positive aspect for us. Moreover, all Maltese media will follow them, and with the documentary about Nepal and media interest, we can naturally promote Nepal’s tourism in Malta.”
Notably, Nepali Sujit Basyal works as a choreographer for Miss Malta, and it was his interest in Nepal that led to this visit, facilitated by Bhandari. The team is scheduled to return to Malta on July 29th. The welcoming team at the airport included NRNA Malta’s Rems Khanal and others.
