Over 2,000 Participants at the Fair
Leicester: Nepalese living in Nottingham, Midlands, organized the second Nepali Fair.
The organizers stated that the fair held last Monday was the largest event among the various Nepali programs and ceremonies in the Midlands.
Nepali Samaj Nottingham started organizing this fair last year to ensure participation from various fields and regions across the Midlands and the UK. Under the leadership of former president Rabindra Sharma, the organizing committee began hosting a grand Nepali fair involving all the organizations in the Midlands.
The program was chaired by Ram Prasad Panthi, president of Nepali Samaj Nottingham, and conducted by General Secretary Birendra Khadka (Resham).
Vice President Loknath provided information on health and safety, while another Vice President, Mukundahari Kharal, coordinated the fundraising efforts.
The event was inaugurated jointly by Nottinghamshire MP and UK Government Junior Minister, Hon. MP Lilian Greenwood, special guest Sheriff of Nottingham Councillor Liaqat Ali, and another special guest, Nuneaton Deputy Mayor Bhim Saru.
Founding president Ran K.C. delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the organizers, while former president Govinda Kharal provided an update on the organization’s activities.
Treasurer Rabindra Giri managed the finances, and volleyball player Buddhi Gurung oversaw volleyball-related arrangements.
Sports Coordinator Basanta Adhikari played a significant role in managing the park and various games.
The fair featured a friendly volleyball tournament with nine Nepali volleyball teams from across the UK, junior football for children under 12, and other entertaining games like wife-carrying races, blindfolded wife recognition, tug-of-war, and kabaddi. The games were organized by committee member Ashok Rizal, advisor Dilaram Gautam, and lifetime member Shalikram Ghimire.
Spokesperson Durga Sapkota took responsibility for managing the stalls.
Parking management was handled by Trustee Ganga Dhakal, committee members Hemlal Gaire and Arjun Sapkota.
For park cleanliness management, committee member Dorn Dangi, advisor Ganesh Sapkota, and Omen Foundation took charge.
Former president Rabindra Sharma coordinated with the police, paramedics, and volunteers, with significant support from Yagya Dumre.
Former presidents Taranath Bhandari, Bishnu Chalise, and Pravin Pandey, among others, participated in the fun games.
The organizers noted that organizations such as Srijansheel Nepal Leicester, Shanti Nepali Samaj Birmingham, Hamro Nepali Samaj Wolverhampton, Grantham Nepali Samaj, Peterborough Nepali Samaj, Coventry Nepali Samaj, Liverpool Nepali Samaj, Galkot Samaj UK, Panchkot Samaj UK, along with representatives from London, Wales, Scotland, and Kavre Society, played supportive roles.
Galkot Samaj UK Wins Volleyball Title
Representatives and players from various Nepali organizations across different cities showcased their talents at the fair.
Galkot Samaj UK won the volleyball championship, with Scotland as the runner-up.
A Dozen Artists Perform at the Fair
The fair featured performances by artists such as Surya Khadka, Tika Sanu, Rabin Lamichhane, Suman Pariyar, Rajan Karki, Sushila Gautam, Renuka Bhattarai, and Srijana Khatri.
Local artists Pramila Dangi, Anjana Sapkota, and Susan Ghimire performed a Nepali rap, while the women’s group from Nottingham Omen Foundation, led by president Neeru Chalise, provided ample entertainment. Vice President Loknath Adhikari played an active role in coordinating and managing the artists.
