LONDON : The funeral of renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja, popularly known as “Nimsdai”, who died while climbing Broad Peak in Pakistan, will be held today, Wednesday, in Dorset, UK.

According to family sources, only family members and close relatives will attend the funeral.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Nims’ elder brother Kamal Bahadur Purja said the ceremony would have limited attendance due to the capacity of the venue, security arrangements, the family’s privacy and adverse weather conditions.

According to the statement, only those who had registered in advance will be allowed to attend the funeral. The family has also requested elderly people and young children not to attend the ceremony.

A separate public memorial service will be organised after the funeral, according to the family. The event is expected to provide an opportunity for Nirmal’s colleagues, well-wishers, members of the Nepali community and people associated with mountaineering to pay their respects.Geographic Reference

Six Nepali climbers, including Purja, died in an accident on July 30 while climbing Broad Peak, an 8,047-metre mountain in Pakistan’s Karakoram range. Purja, who had gained global recognition in the mountaineering world, was widely mourned by Nepal’s mountaineering community as well as climbers around the world.
