London: Newly appointed Prime Minister KP Sharma has urged Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs) to invest in the industrial sector.
Prime Minister Oli made this statement on Saturday during a meeting with a delegation from the Non-Resident Nepali Association at Baluwatar. Oli called on NRNs to focus on industrial investment for the prosperity of Nepal. He expressed commitment to amending the necessary laws to ensure the economic, social, and cultural rights granted by the constitution to Non-Resident Nepali citizens and to immediately issuing guidelines for the operation of a joint investment NRN Development Fund. Oli assured that, as an independent and autonomous organization, the association should not fear external interference and pledged his full support to ensure its independence.
The delegation, which visited the official residence in Baluwatar, congratulated and extended best wishes for the success of Prime Minister Oli’s tenure.
Prime Minister Oli interacted for about an hour with NRN activists led by founding president Dr. Upendra Mahato. During this interaction, NRN President Dr. Badri KC highlighted the challenges faced by the NRN movement, the facilitation of investment in Nepal, and the implementation of non-resident Nepali citizenship, urging the government to take a proactive role.
The event was attended by the association’s Vice President Rosina Pradhan Rai, Atul Koirala, Hiradhan Rai, Bhushan Ghimire, Krishna Timalsina, Arjun Kumar Shrestha, Bijan Bhatt, Raju Aryal, Keshav Timalsina, Rajendra Pudasaini, and Parshu Basnet, among others.
Prior to this, the same delegation had discussed issues concerning Non-Resident Nepalis with Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and Foreign Minister Arzu Deuba.
A legal crisis has arisen within the association after the Supreme Court nullified the executive committee with three presidents established under the multi-tiered system of the association’s 10th general convention. The upcoming election for the association’s leadership remains uncertain.
