London In an unexpected turn, a Nepali flag was spotted among demonstrators during an ongoing protest in Georgia, where thousands of youths surrounded the presidential palace in Tbilisi on Friday, demanding sweeping political reforms.

According to Georgia based OC Media, which published video footage of the protest, the Nepali flag was seen fluttering during the clashes near the presidential residence in Tbilisi. The outlet quoted a demonstrator as saying the Georgian government had “put itself into the Nepalese scenario” — a reference to Nepal’s recent Gen Z movement that led to the fall of its previous government.

The ruling Georgian Dream Party currently leads the government, but international media have reported growing public frustration and opposition anger over corruption, alleged election fraud, and the government’s authoritarian drift. Protesters have issued a five-point demand, calling for fresh elections, the release of detained opposition leaders, an end to the suppression of journalists and activists, and Georgia’s accession to the European Union.

The presence of the Nepali flag at the rally has sparked diplomatic curiosity and debate. Georgian commentators have described it as a symbol of how youth-led political awakenings are now transcending borders.

The incident adds to a growing list of movements said to have drawn inspiration from Nepal’s Gen Z protest, which gained international attention for its creative, leaderless, and digitally mobilized campaign for accountability and change. Earlier, youth activists in Ladakh, India, demanding statehood and constitutional rights, publicly cited Nepal’s Gen Z movement as a motivating example. Similarly, during the recent student protests in France, demonstrators were seen referencing Nepal’s youth-led uprising in social media posts calling for “authentic democracy.”

As Nepal’s homegrown youth movement continues to make ripples abroad, the appearance of its national flag in a protest thousands of kilometers away underscores how a new generation’s call for justice and political renewal is resonating far beyond its borders.

Georgia, located in the Caucasus region at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and West Asia, borders Russia to the north, Turkey and Armenia to the south and Azerbaijan to the southeast.
