NRNA to Provide 10 Million Rupees in First Phase of Aid to Flood Victims

London: Due to continuous heavy rainfall, various parts of the country have been severely affected by floods, landslides, and inundation. In response, the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has pledged to provide 10 million rupees as aid to the victims.

According to NRNA President Dr. Badri KC, during a virtual meeting held on Sunday, the association’s officials decided to provide immediate assistance of 10 million rupees in the first phase for the flood victims.

The meeting also formed a high-level financial aid collection committee, chaired by NRNA Vice President Dr. Hem Raj Sharma. The committee includes various officials of the association, regional coordinators, and the presidents of the National Coordination Councils.

Following the officials’ meeting, an emergency joint meeting of the National Coordination Council and the International Coordination Council is scheduled for tomorrow, September 30, to further discuss the aid collection.

President Dr. KC mentioned that the NRNA, in collaboration with national committees, is preparing to physically be present in the affected areas to distribute relief.

The meeting also expressed condolences for those who lost their lives due to the disasters caused by the heavy rainfall and extended deep sympathy to the bereaved families. In this context, the association has formed a committee consisting of Som Sapkota and Krishna Timalsina, based in Kathmandu, to study the damage in the affected areas. The committee will present its report in the meeting of the International Coordination Council (Central Committee).

NRNA General Secretary Gauri Raj Joshi informed that the meeting also discussed the preparation for the association’s annual general meeting, which is scheduled to take place in Kathmandu on October 27 and 28.

So far, 170 people have lost their lives across the country due to floods, landslides, and inundation. By Sunday evening, 42 people were reported missing and 111 injured. A total of 162 people from areas like Kavrepalanchok, Sindhuli, and Lalitpur have been rescued.

The flood and landslide-affected districts include Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Makwanpur, Lalitpur, Kavre, Dhading, Sindhupalchok, Dolakha, Sindhuli, Ramechhap, Nuwakot, Panchthar, Dhankuta, Udayapur, Solukhumbu, Ilam, Mahottari, and Saptari.
