London: Mayor Basant Shrestha of Baglung Municipality has expressed his commitment to transforming Baglung into a model municipality. Speaking at an event organized by the Baglung Society Belgium in Leuven on Sunday, Mayor Shrestha outlined his plans for the development of Baglung.
“With determination, it is possible to create a model municipality. I am moving forward with a strong resolve. With your support, Baglung can be made exemplary,” said Mayor Shrestha, emphasizing his focus on action over mere words.
The event, chaired by Mahendra Pant, President of the Baglung Society Belgium, also featured a special farewell to Nepal’s Ambassador to Belgium, Gehendra Rajbhandari, who is returning to Nepal after completing his tenure. Ambassador Rajbhandari thanked the Nepali community in Belgium for their support during his tenure.
Rubina Sharma, General Secretary of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Belgium, highlighted the importance of connecting the younger generation abroad with Nepal through language and cultural heritage.
The program included remarks from leaders and representatives of various Nepali social and ideological organizations based in Belgium. Key speakers included Chiranjivi Khawas, President of the Business Association; Ganga Sharma Sherpa, former President of the Baglung Society; PD Sherpa, President of Kiduk; Netra Magar, President of the Federal Society; Binod Nyaupane, President of the Migrant Nepali Forum; Subas Gurung, President of the Public Relations Committee; and senior journalist Dil Nishani Magar. Others offering their well-wishes were former NRNA Belgium President Khadka KC, Chair of the Progressive Forum Europe Chitra Subedi, Lok Rana of the World Magar Federation, and society patron Gangadhar Gautam.
The event was moderated by General Secretary Prabhat Paudel and was attended by Baglung Municipality’s Chief Administrative Officer Haridatta Kandel and Officer Dinesh Jisi.
