London — The 23rd edition of the prestigious Gorkha Cup concluded with Dream Team emerging as the champions in a thrilling finale held at the Queens Avenue Sports Field in Aldershot, UK.
In a nail-biting men’s final that extended into a penalty shootout, Dream Team edged out Guruji Elliott Team 4–2 after a 1–1 draw during regulation and extra time. With the win, Dream Team claimed the coveted title, a cash prize of £3,000, a trophy, and certificates. Runners-up Guruji Elliott Team took home £1,800, along with a trophy and certificates.
In individual accolades for the men’s category, Shakthim Chemjong of Dream Team was named Best Manager, while his teammate Ishwar Gurung won the Best Player award. Top Scorer went to Robel Nalbo of Guruji Elliott Team.
In the Veterans’ category, Himalayan FC triumphed over Intec 2000 with a dominant 4–0 victory in the final, securing £1,500, a trophy, and certificates. Intec 2000, the runners-up, received £1,000 and accolades. Kumar Thapa of Himalayan FC was awarded Best Manager, Dr. Sandeep Gurung was Top Scorer, and Khum Gurung claimed Best Player.
In the women’s division, Runder Boltz FC secured the title with a convincing 3–0 win over Tamang Society UK. Runder Boltz received £600, a trophy, and certificates, while the runners-up were awarded £400, a trophy, and certificates. Best Player in the women’s category was awarded to Garima Rai.
This year’s Gorkha Cup saw participation from 50 teams—32 in the men’s category, 16 in veterans, and 2 in the women’s division.
For the first time, the title of “Football Legend of Gorkha Cup” was introduced and awarded to Lokprasad Chemjong Dhanakute in recognition of his contribution to the sport.
The awards were presented by Jumkaji Gurung, President of Tamu Dhee UK (the event organiser), Nepal’s Ambassador to the UK Chandra Kumar Ghimire, Mayor of Rushmoor Borough Council Caleon Stewart, local MP Alex Baker, footballer Sabitra Bhandari, and various sponsors.
The Gorkha Cup continues to be a major highlight for the Nepali community in the UK, drawing thousands of spectators and celebrating sportsmanship, community spirit, and cultural pride.
