London: Nepali community in the UK has established the Dharma Darshan Cultural Centre UK – as a charity organisation- with the aim of bringing together their own religious and cultural traditions, values, and festivals on a single common platform.
The cultural centre was envisioned by a Nepali storyteller and scholar of the eighteen Puranas, Guru Pandit Kubera Subedi, and established through the active participation of the Nepali community in the UK.
The enthusiastic presence of devotees during the historic public recitation of the Shrimad Bhagavat held for the first time at Southall Vishwa Hindu Mandir in London (from August 12 to 18, 2025) encouraged volunteers to set up the Centre. The Centre has set a goal to establish a Sanatan Hindu temple along with a cultural centre for Nepali Hindus in the West London area, said the Centre’s president, Sahadev Giri.
The management committee of the Centre includes President Sahadev Giri, Vice President Dadhi Acharya, General Secretary Anandraj Acharya, Treasurer Chiran Sharma, Deputy Treasurer Tika Rai, and members Shree Baleshwari Devi, Hari Rai, Indra Kumari Gurung, Khem Shrestha, Renuka Rai, Suman Thapa, and Sunil Gurung. Pandit Kuber Subedi serves as the centre’s patron.
Pandit Subedi stated that the Dharma Darshan Cultural Centre will play a significant role in preserving Hindu religion, Nepali art, culture, and traditions for the new generation growing up in the UK. He has urged the Nepali community and devotees in the UK to join this centre, which also aims to involve future generations. The Nepali Embassy in the UK has been proposed as a patron of the Centre.
The objectives of the Centre include establishing a Sanatan Hindu temple for Hindus, creating shrines for various deities within the Centre, preserving, promoting, and publicizing Nepali art, culture, and traditional attire, developing it as a centre for the study and research of Sanatan Hindu religion, preserving and promoting Nepal’s indigenous culture, designing and implementing national and international policies and programs for cultural transmission, and encouraging the new generation to actively participate in social and cultural transformation.
The Centre envisions daily worship according to Sanatan tradition, art and cultural training programs, regular yoga classes, ceremonies such as weddings and Bratabandha, recitation of Shrimad Bhagavat and other religious rituals, communal meals, sound healing training for mental well-being, and facilities such as a library and canteen.
The Centre will be established with broad support from the local UK government and the Nepali community, and will have an institutional structure including trustees, a council of patrons, a management committee, and various departments.
Membership at Dharma Darshan Cultural Centre UK is available in Diamond, Gold, Silver, Founding, and Lifetime categories. The names of members will be highlighted and listed within the Centre, the management committee stated.
