Nepali Congress Leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala in the UK

London. Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has arrived in the UK. He is visiting at the invitation of the UK’s Minister of State for Asia, Catherine West, and the Minister for Industry, Trade, and Commerce, Gareth Thomas.

Koirala was welcomed by Nepali Congress activists, including the President of the Nepali Janasampark Samiti UK, Yuvaraj Gurung, when he landed at London’s Heathrow Airport on Thursday evening.

Speaking to the media at the airport, Koirala said, “I have come to the UK as a Member of Parliament from Nepal, and I aim to strengthen the relationship between our parliaments.”

He added that during his stay in the UK, he would not only engage with Nepali Congress activists but also seek to understand the issues faced by the Nepali diaspora.

Koirala urged the Nepali community in the UK to invest in Nepal and return home. “I sincerely hope that Nepali nationals living abroad will consider returning to their homeland to invest in businesses,” he stated.

Rajkumar Tripathi, the former General Secretary of the Nepali Janasampark Samiti UK, informed that Koirala is scheduled to address a special event at the Nepalese Parliament on January 13, 2025.

The event will be attended by the UK’s Minister of State for Asia, the Minister for Industry, Trade and Commerce, as well as UK Members of Parliament.

On Friday, Koirala is also expected to interact with leaders of the Nepali community in the UK at an event organized by the Nepali Embassy in London.

During his stay, Koirala is scheduled to meet with the Speaker of the UK Parliament, participate in an All-Party Parliamentary Group meeting, and engage in other key events organized by the Nepali community.

Dr. Koirala is set to return to Nepal on Friday, January 16, 2025.
