– Som Nath Sapkota :
Today marks the beginning of the NRN Global Conclave–2024 and Annual General Assembly, celebrating Non-Resident Nepali Day. Under this year’s theme, “Transformation and Unity: Continuity of Nepali Citizenship, Labor, and Investment,” Nepalis from across the globe are gathering at Hotel Soaltee in Kathmandu on October 27-28, 2024 (Kartik 11 and 12), to engage in discussions centered on meaningful change and unity. This morning’s inauguration by the Honorable Prime Minister, Mr. KP Sharma Oli, brings together esteemed ministers, senior officials, international dignitaries, and industry experts, with over 500 participants attending in person and remotely.
Today’s agenda addresses critical topics, including infrastructure for economic transformation, non-resident Nepali citizenship, voting rights, the Gorkhas’ legacy, contributions from foreign citizens of Nepali origin, the impact of climate change on women and children, and the transfer of technology to build a prosperous Nepal. Tomorrow, the focus will shift to empowering young Nepali migrants in nation-building, promoting dignified foreign employment, enhancing social security, and advancing Nepal’s tourism through policy and investment opportunities. This gathering creates an inclusive platform to unite non-resident Nepalis, government officials, and sector representatives in a shared mission for Nepal’s future.
A key initiative discussed at the conclave is the launch of the NRN Development Fund, a 10-billion fund dedicated to long-term projects that will drive economic and social progress in Nepal. The conclave aims to strengthen ties between non-resident Nepalis and Nepal, fostering investment to lay a sustainable foundation for Nepal’s prosperity.
On October 28, representatives from over 60 countries will participate in the Annual General Assembly, where they will review financial and annual reports, celebrate accomplishments, and set priorities for the future. With virtual attendance options available, the assembly invites widespread involvement and serves as a forum to resolve past differences, creating a renewed sense of unity.
As a volunteer-based, social organization, NRN proudly embodies the spirit of “By Nepali, for Nepali.” Built through years of dedication, time, and resources from our seniors, this network exists to support and unite Nepalis globally. Although internal issues may arise, we move forward with mutual respect, embracing our shared mission—united we stand, divided we fall. Let us come together, in person or virtually, to ensure the success of this event and fulfill our vision for a strong, connected community that continues to empower Nepalis worldwide.
