Zagreb – Nepali citizens residing in Croatia have requested the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) to assist in establishing a Nepali embassy in the country. During an interaction program held in Zagreb, representatives of the Nepali community expressed that with the increasing number of Nepalis in Croatia, there is a growing need for an embassy.
NRNA’s central vice president, Hem Raj Sharma, stated that the organization has played a crucial role in strengthening the relationship between Nepal and Nepalis abroad. He said, “The efforts of the Non-Resident Nepali Association have made significant contributions in addressing the issues of Nepali citizens living overseas. However, as the organization grows, it faces new challenges.”
He added, “As the institution expands, the challenges also increase. We are prepared to find solutions, and we are organizing the upcoming General Assembly to address any grievances within the association.”
Although the Nepali embassy in Austria has been providing services to Nepalis in Croatia, there have been complaints about inadequate services due to a shortage of staff.
NRNA Croatia’s president, Simon Lama, urged for immediate steps to be taken to establish a Nepali embassy. He mentioned that approximately 30,000 Nepali people live in Croatia. He highlighted the inconvenience caused by the lack of a Nepali embassy, particularly in relation to passport and consular services.
Lama said, “Nepalis on work permits in Croatia are facing problems such as delayed salaries and a lack of job security. The number of Nepalis is steadily increasing here, and therefore, I urge the NRNA to take immediate action for the establishment of the Nepali embassy.”
During the event, Vice President Sharma reaffirmed the NRNA’s commitment to taking steps towards establishing the embassy.
